Christian spiritualitymeans aligning our lives more closely to the image of God in Jesus Christ…identifying with Jesus, seeing and hearing the world through God’s eyes and ears…until his life becomes our life…because of the life-shaping actions we engage in together as the family of Jesus Christ. [Kenda Creasy Dean and Ron Foster in Soul Tending: Life-Forming Practices for Older Youth and Young Adults, p 11.
Spiritual practices, specifically Christian spiritual practices, help form us into Christ’s disciples. After all, a disciple is a learner; someone who learns from his or her Master Teacher. Christian practices are those attitudes and actions that open us up to what God may already be doing in our lives, allowing us to imitate Jesus in our daily lives. Call it life-forming practices that God uses to make us more like Christ. A good place to start discovering more about spiritual practices is Practicing Our Faith: http://www.practicingourfaith.org/what-are-christian-practices. This is the place to go to see a full list of all the varied activities that can be considered to be Christian practices, including some you may not have thought of as furthering your faith, such as hospitality or household economics., Or, take a look at Renovare, a community of Christians focused on Spiritual formation in all its forms and in many churches: https://www.renovare.org/about. |
